Travelling to Lewes for Bonfire Night
The centre of Lewes is closed to traffic and becomes completely pedestrianised for the bonfire night celebrations!
Cars are stopped from entering the Lewes in the afternoon, buses stop running, extra trains are drafted in to ferry people in and out, barriers are put up all over the place and the emergency services are everywhere!
By car:
If you come by car then make sure you come early and leave your car on the outskirts of town. Leaving it anywhere in town will either get it towed away or accidentally damaged by revellers.
Lewes has a very strict parking scheme, so be very careful where you leave your car as many of the bays are 'Residents Parking' only and you will end up with a ticket.
By bus:
Busses will stop running early so check the times before you set out. Don't expect to get home by bus!
By train:
Coming by train is something I have never done but I know that it gets extremely busy with huge queues waiting for the trains to take them home. It all seem to work smoothly though and I think that the majority of visitors come and go via the trains.
